Episode 95: Building the Cannaverse

You’ve heard of the metaverse, but what is it? It’s not a specific place or piece of technology — it’s how we interact with technology. It’s a virtual world people can enter using VR, AR, PCs, or smart phones. Once inside, users can buy NFTs with digital currency, attend educational seminars, watch concerts, or chat with other avatars to build a virtual life. Amazon disrupted in-person retail shopping in much the same way technologists predict the metaverse will change the way people live their daily lives.

Cannabis & Tech Today Managing Editor Patricia Miller sat down with Matt Morgan, co-founder of Cannaverse Technologies and the metaverse platform Cannaland, to learn how the cannabis industry can leverage the metaverse for ecommerce and more. Dig deeper at cannaversetech.io or follow Morgan’s IG or TikTok accounts at TheMatthewMorgan.

Episode 94: Cannabis and Consciousness With Carlos Santana

The legendary guitarist Carlos Santana is renowned for his unique sound and a legacy of best-selling albums. He’s sold over 100 million records since his 1960s debut, winning numerous lifetime achievement awards, Grammys, and accolades. But this soulful musician isn’t resting on his laurels. He continues to tour, create new music, and headline a multi-year residency at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Santana has now expanded his brand to offer Mirayo, a line of cannabis products produced in partnership with Left Coast Ventures.

His current musical collaboration with his wife and drummer Cindy Blackman Santana is focused on celebrating the diverse sounds of blues, funk, jazz, rock, and pop. A recent release, their rendition of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Imagine, is donating 100% of streaming profits to WhyHunger’s Rapid Response Fund. The fund was established to combat the global hunger crisis that has only intensified as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

When Cannabis & Tech Today connected with the legendary performer, he was nestled in his Hawaiian estate, enjoying some downtime from what is, by anyone’s standard, a jam-packed schedule for a 72-year-old entertainer.

In this exclusive interview, Santana shares his soul. He discusses how he is grieving the loss of his brother, why the Black Lives Matter movement is ushering in a new wave of consciousness, and how cannabis has always been part of his cultural and spiritual identity.

Episode 92: Driving Retail Sales With Digital Signage

Digital menu boards seem to be a standard in cannabis dispensaries. Customers can identify what they want, what’s available, pricing, potency, and maybe even some educational tidbits as well — all while waiting in line. Digital signage is more than a digital picture frame, it’s an opportunity to talk to the captive waiting room and tell a story. That story could include advertising, how-to tips, and even customer reviews. It’s an evolving tool to help retailers drive sales and connect with customers. In this episode of Cannabis Tech Talks, Co-founder, CEO, and Chairman of Enlighten Jeremy Jacobs discusses his inspiration for creating Enlighten. Join the conversation and expand your understanding in this retail and technology-focused discussion featuring Cannabis & Tech Today Managing Editor Patricia Miller.

Episode 91: Building Customer Trust With Blockchain Tracking

Building trust around cannabis has been a slow process. The U.S. Government spent billions of dollars over several decades smearing the plant and degrading users. Now it’s up to cannabis retailers and producers to change the narrative. The only way to do that is through transparent practices and education. New technologies are making this easier. In this episode of Cannabis Tech Talks, Isaac Balbin shares how his inventory and compliance software Parsl is using blockchain to create an unchangeable record of product data from seed to sale. By pairing that information with a consumer app called Parsl Trust, cannabis customers can scan retail items and see an entire history including harvest data, lab reports, and even counterfeit warnings. Join the conversation and learn more at Parsl.co.
